7 Ways to Improve Your Home's Sell-ability

In a challenging real estate market, it is more important than ever to make your home stand out.  An article on MSN Real Estate showed the following 7 tips to make it easier to sell your home:

  1. Maintain neutrality by toning down bright or dark-colored walls.  Neutral colors help homebuyers create their own vision of the house.
  2. Less is more when it comes to furniture.  Create more pathways and make your rooms appear more spacious when you have less furniture on display.
  3. Beware of your home's smell.  Take out the trash, clean out the refrigerator, and be mindful of what you're cooking in the days leading up to your home being shown.
  4. Pay attention to the details.  Replace hardware on cabinets (if older) and upgrade light switch and outlet covers.
  5. Maximize curb appeal by maintaining your lawn and keeping it well manicured.  Keep a clear and welcoming path to your front door.
  6. Don't get too personal.  Get rid of newspapers, magazines, and mail.  Put away personal objects such as pictures and family albums.
  7. Take care of repairs.  They will need to be done at some point, so it is better to do them before you list your home.
